Ediciones Paralelas
for Ediciones de a Poco
EDITORIAL
Ediciones de a Poco publishes fiction, poetry and visual books from the Dominican Republic. In 2017 its founder, David Puig, wanted to create a side-project dedicated to the translation of contemporary poetry to Spanish. He wanted to make poetry that he has personally enjoyed reading accessible to a larger audience and introduce lesser-known poets to a Spanish-speaking readership. Thus Ediciones Paralelas was born (‘Parallel Editions’ to the output of ‘Little by Little/ Gradual Editions’).
To launch Ediciones Paralelas we started with 4 publications: ‘Diez Peomas en Prosa’ by Maged Zaher, ‘Cinco Poemas’ by A.K. Ramanujan, ‘La Hora del Desayuno en Kala Ghoda’ by Arun Kolatkar and ‘Tocqueville’ by Khaled Mattawa, all translated into Spanish by Puig. We decided on a very simple direction for the design; we wanted to make unassuming, unpretentious and accessible publications. We chose materials that give a very natural, stripped-down feel and used very little color. Little details in the logo, the page numbers and striped pages allude to the name of the series.
